Academic Programs Related to Recovery
Fuller Theological Seminary offers three academic programs related to recovery ministry. At present it is only possible to take the courses required by these programs on Fuller’s Pasadena campus. We hope to expand availability in the future to include other locations and other methods of course delivery. . . but it is going to require time (and money!) for that to happen.
Master of Divinity with an Area of Emphasis in Recovery Ministry
The Master of Divinity degree equips students for church leadership and pastoral ministry, and provides an excellent academic and biblical foundation for the pursuit of advanced theological degrees. The MDiv prepares graduates for ordination in virtually every denomination, as well as leadership positions in parachurch ministries and educational institutions.

Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry with an Area of Emphasis in Recovery Ministry
The Master of Arts in Theology and Ministry is designed to prepare the student for ministry in churches and in parachurch organizations. It develops the future Recovery ministry specialist to work with people struggling to recovery from addiction, abuse or trauma.

Certificate Program in Recovery Ministry
The Certificate in Recovery Ministry provides an entry-level introduction to the field for students who are interested in recovery ministry in the local church, but cannot study full time. For those already involved in ministry, the certificate offers an opportunity to enhance one’s knowledge and skills while obtaining an added credential.

Please note that these programs are not designed to meet the requirements of NAADAC, CAADAC or other organizations which license or certify addiction counselors. For a list of Addiction Study Programs for addiction counselors see Directory of Addiction Study Programs (DASP).
